With the month of March being Women's History Month, Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS) Philippines, Sun Life's Global Capability Centre, endeavored to proactively shape the future of women in technology. The IT Girls: Empowering the Youth in their IT Careers activity initiated by SLG, NS Philippines infused passion and aspiration in the hearts of young women aiming to enter the tech industry.
The workshop sought to ignite, equip, and launch women into successful careers in the IT sector while immersing them in the industry through a day of valuable insights, career pathways, and hands-on experiences with leaders from SLGS Philippines.
SLGS Philippines welcomed students from various universities to an afternoon of discussions and activities with WiTech (Women in Technology), a non-profit with the mission to promote gender inclusivity in technology.
“SLGS strongly believes in fostering an inclusive and respectful environment. As the technology solutions provider for the leading insurance company in the Philippines, we are uniquely positioned to inspire and empower young women as they begin their careers in technology,” statements from Nathalie Bernardo, Vice President and Site Head of SLGS Philippines.
The workshop opened with a session led by Jennifer Lumbao on key trends in the IT sector. This highlighted innovations such as Gen AI, Big Data, and Robotic Process Automation, and mobile applications, fields worth looking into for students starting their careers. The discussed innovations included:
Sun Buddy: A 24/7 virtual assistant geared toward helping Sun Life advisors with real-time access to product information so as to serve clients better and help onboard advisors. Sun Life Asks: An AI chatbot that improves workplace productivity by helping with text summarization up to presentation compilation. Sun Life Mobile App: An end-to-end platform that allows clients to manage their accounts, find advisors, and get relevant financial resources.
Moving ahead, the next part of the workshop honed in on career advancement, with insights offered by Katrina Rodriguez, SLGS Philippines Head of Human Resource and Communications, guiding participants through career roadmaps, interviewing techniques, and workplace etiquette. Participants had the opportunity to meet with the latest batch of Sun Risers, the new joiners currently underway with their onboarding program at SLGS that intends to place them on fast track into the corporate world.
SLGS organized activities for International Women's Day (IWD) under the theme "Her Health, Her Power" to push for an inclusive workplace culture that gives emphasis to women. Some of the initiatives include: participation in the Filipina CEO Circle Women’s Run PH, the HPV Vaccination Drive, Mental Health Webinars, Zumba and Pilates for Women, with a Fireside Chat with SLGS women leaders to sign off.
"This International Women's Month, SLGS Philippines is celebrating a global movement that empowers women to achieve their ambitions. SLGS will continue to break down barriers through initiatives such as this workshop which aims to create pathways for youth, irrespective of gender," concluded Bernardo.
“We’re excited to continue #AcceleratingAction toward a truly inclusive tech industry by providing insights into the industry and unveiling the exciting career opportunities that await these young women,” she added.
