Nigeria Recognized for Proactive Implementation of Beijing Framework by UN Women

UN Women has commended Nigeria for its dedicated efforts in driving the Beijing Platform for Action, in boosting women’s role and advancements, recently. Notable improvements in political engagement, economic growth, educational access, and the ongoing fight against gender-based violence were the key highlighted achievements.

During a consultation in Abuja on Monday, Ms. Beatrice Eyong, UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, praised Nigeria’s advancements while reviewing country’s Beijing+30 Report ahead of the upcoming 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). Beatrice reaffirmed UN Women’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in accelerating the implementation of gender-responsive policies.

In honor of the International Women’s Day (IWD), United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has introduced a range of impactful initiatives scheduled for March, reinforcing its strategic focus on gender equity and financial empowerment throughout Africa. These programs will directly address essential health, social, and economic concerns while providing customized financial solutions to enhance women’s success.

Representing the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Director of Women Development, MRs. Friya Bulus, highlighted the significance of the platform in recognizing Nigeria’s accomplishments and shaping a forward-looking approach to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

She said: “We are here today to recognize the progress we’ve made, Beijing plus 30, and to assess our performance, to look at the report we’ve been able to put together, to assess our areas of challenges, look at what we need to push out as best practices over the years, and also look at what has constituted major challenges to women economic empowerment and gender equality. “Our strategic review today of Nigeria’s progress in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action over the 30 years is very, very strategic.”

Educational webinar series will bring together experts to explore critical discussions on women’s health and wellness addressing social challenges. These solution-driven initiatives and discussions to shape Nigeria’s gender equality agenda and drive impactful policy reforms.
