Turkey's Road to Gender Equity: Strides Made but Long Distance Yet to be Covered

Achieving gender balance and gender equality is a challenge that has plagued regions across the globe for decades. But nations have made more progress than others it terms of achieving women’s empowerment is different aspects of life and work.

Middle Eastern nation, Turkey has faced an ongoing struggle with achieving gender balance. Although the nation has made significant progress over the last few years and inched up on the global gender index, yet a lot still remains undone.

Women in Turkey make up a small percentage in politics, private businesses, public roles etc. Roadblocks such as gender-based stereotypes, gender pay gap, unpaid labour, and other inequalities keep the country long way from achieving equality in a true sense.

While challenges persist, so do courageous women from Turkey. Women in Turkey have been playing a crucial role in driving change across various sectors, including politics, business, education, and social development. Despite facing deeply ingrained cultural and societal challenges, many women have risen to prominent positions and have become powerful advocates for gender equality.

One such noteworthy woman is Gökce Şengezer, Founder, Ange Assistance. Gracing the cover of this month’s GWL magazine, Gökce earned her degree in Psychology from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley. Her journey in medical assistance is defined by her commitment to blending scientific insight with practical applications, driving transformative change in the industry.

Another successful women leader featured in the current magazine edition is Ayşe Özdemir Karakaya, the Chief Product and Marketing Officer at BinBin, a seasoned professional with over 18 years of experience, Ayşe excels in product management, marketing, and business development. With expertise in AI, digital solutions, and strategic growth, she has led transformative initiatives across leading tech companies.

In this magazine edition also read about Feyhan Kaprali, Managing Partner, Tesker. Feyhan is a diligent leader who is passionate about the travel industry and has been helping clients and making it easy for them. She has been managing a team of 50 people and constantly working towards sustainability.

Burçin Ece Çimrin, Managing Director, TLM Shipping, is another resilient woman leader featured in this month’s GWL magazine. She has a bachelor's degree in English and Spanish Language and Literature from Istanbul University. She has over 13 years of experience in international logistics, supply chain management, and business development, having held key leadership roles within the company across multiple regions.

These women and their work continue to empower other women in Turkey and pushing the envelope for greater inclusion in leadership roles.
